When I Couldn't Move

seemingly unprovoked,
the inflammation crept,
the tendons and the bones,
revolt, prevent,
the shadow of the earth
is blacking out the moon
and caused us to revert,
don't return
when i couldn't move
i had nowhere to go,
my stagnancy proved
enough to undo
the progress i showed
when i couldn't move
my momentum was gone
the old devils i knew
didn't have to run fast
to catch me at all
i don't want to sit around and sulk
don't want to forget all that i know
felling like i'm trapped inside my home
chew it 'til it's fluid but i choke
getting big but losing all my swoll
sitting still is not instilling hope
been keeping off my toes
postponing my return
improvement's coming slow
still weak, still hurts
relinquishing control
we're sinking in the dune
pretending it's our call
hold, breathe in

don't know what you do, but i know where to find you
take comfort in consistency of your sense of place
but rewarding people for never growing
is inherently strange
i don't proclaim to have invented the lever
but like to think i'm not resistant to change
you felt a new hampshire / maine amount of whatever
and went back to your day
change is good
if you never leave you'll never learn anything
change, it comes anyway
change is good
stop lamenting how you thought it would always be
take a minute, buy a ticket, hop a train and escape
you never got away from the dumb town you grew up in
and the silly jerks you called your friends in your teens
you'll always play the roles that you played in high school
and you will never leave
we're all attracted to what we find familiar
but now i think that that might be a mistake
you felt a new hampshire / maine amount of whatever
and figured why not just stay
